Edwardian Turquoise & Gold Tie Pin
An elegant Edwardian tie pin, featuring a bright turquoise cabochon gemstone, set onto a delicate 15ct yellow gold rope knot.
The knot is a sentimental symbol that spans centuries, and features heavily in historical design elements of Celtic, Greek, Romam and Egyptian jewellery. In the Victorian era, sailors are said to have worn ‘love knots’ for their loved ones back home.
Across history, turquoise has been highly prized as a talisman and worn for its protective qualities. In the 17th century, this gemstone was worn nearly exclusively by men, but it became more widely popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, who favoured its bright and beautiful tones, and throughout the Victorian era it took on its reputation as a symbol of love. Now, it is a widely celebrated stone, worn for luck, positivity and good health, and is also the birthstone of December.
Note: There is a slight chip to the Turquoise.
“I love to sail forbidden seas, and land on barbarous coasts.”
~ Herman Melville, Moby-Dick
