Early 20th Century Citrine Cross Pendant
A dazzling early 20th century 15ct gold citrine cross pendant, brimming with Edwardian elegance and grace. Six sunny citrine stones sparkle beautifully on the neck, glittering like sunlight over water in a timeless design, evoking the charm and grace of this era.
This antique piece has fascinating provenance, coming from the collection of the late Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse, (nee Messel, of Nymans, Sussex, previously Armstrong-Jones) 1902-1992, mother of Lord Snowdon and mother-in-law to HRH Princess Margaret. Anne was an English socialite and one of the founders of The Victorian Society.
She made her debut into society in 1922 and was known to be one of the greatest beauties of her age, with her glamorous poise and fashion sense often praised by society columnists. She is even known to have had a tradition of noting down about how she felt wearing a certain clothing item before storing it away. Her dazzling friendship circle included Edward James (British poet), Tilly Losch (Austrian dancer, actor &artist), Zita Jungman (one of the ’Bright Young Things,’) and Cecil Beaton, (society photographer).
The Rosse family jewelry collection is greatly admired, most notably the magnificent diamond and emerald parue, worn by the Countess of Rosse to HRH Princess Margaret’s wedding.
