1867 Victorian Emerald & Pearl Cluster Ring
£685.00

An elegant Victorian 18ct gold, half-pearl and foiled back emerald cluster ring of floral design, with stunning scroll pierced split shoulders, hallmarked for Birmingham 1867. The varying tones of these emerald stones invoke the varied greens found in nature; rolling verdant hills, spring fields following fresh rain, lush trees and green canopies…

This ring may well have been designed with ‘floriography,’ the Victorian Language of Flowers, in mind, and used to convey a message of love, friendship or even remembrance. While we can never know the original story behind this piece of history, there is undoubtedly a story to be told.

1867 is the year that budding author Jo March travels to New York to pursue her writing career in ‘Little Women,’ Louisa May Alcott’s infamous novel.

‘I want to do something splendid before I go into my castle—something heroic, or wonderful—that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it, and mean to astonish you all, some day.’

~ Jo March, Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
